About Cafe Diplo Peace Ambassadors
At the outset, Cafe Diplo – a Singapore based peacebuilding social enterprise – identified and appointed Peace Ambassadors to work with on projects primarily using music to bring people together. The typical ambassador is an established musician with experience engaging in transcultural peacebuilding work and/or is deeply passionate about contributing to initiatives to resolve conflict and build peace, particularly through the use of the universal language of music.

Jason Carter

British guitarist Jason Carter has toured in more than 70 countries and recorded 14 CDs. He has received Music Awards from the Crown Prince of Bahrain and the Government of North Korea for 'Building Bridges Through Music'. Jason tours mostly as a solo guitarist but also collaborates with musicians from Asia and the Middle East on a regular basis. He has played with people such as Michael Manring, Phil Keaggy, Nigel Kennedy, Clannad, and has been featured on compilation albums with Barbara Streisand, Art Garfunkel, Anoushka Shankar, Diana Krall, Zakir Hussain, Sheila Chandra, The Bill Evans Trio, John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Joe Satriani, Steve Morse, Allan Holdsworth, John Scofield, Jeff Beck, Larry Coryell, Hariprasad Chaurasia and Trilok Gurtu. Jason is also working on TV music for the Discovery Channel, the SciFi Channel, a UN Documentary and a feature film in New Zealand.

Aravinth Kumarasamy

Singaporean musician Aravinth Kumarasamy is an accomplished vainika (veena player) and composer whose works have been performed by many international artistes, theatre groups and dance companies. He is an active transcultural music collaborator, and has worked on several projects with artistes from Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, India, Sri Lanka, China, Vietnam, Spain and Hungary. Aravinth’s many initiatives for youths include the creation of Singapore’s first Indian youth and secondary school orchestras at Kolam Ayer Community Club and Raffles Girls School respectively. His passion also lies in work that benefits needy communities. In 2001, Aravinth organised a charity concert for earthquake victims of Gujarat, India. In 2005, he rallied more than 100 musicians to perform at a charity concert to support Singapore International Foundation’s Tsunami relief fund. Aravinth is a member of the Advisory Board (Music) at the National Arts Council, Singapore. He has also represented the country in many festivals around the world and at several key ASEAN cultural events.
